Main Causes of Surface Damage on Aluminum Profiles
① The surface of the ingot has attached impurities or there is component segregation in the ingot. When a lot of segregated protrusions exist on the ingot surface and the ingot hasn't been properly homogenized or the homogenization was ineffective, there will be a certain number of hard metal particles inside the ingot. During extrusion, as the metal flows along the working belt, these protrusions or hard metal particles can attach to the working belt surface or damage the belt, eventually causing scratches on the profile surface.
② There are impurities in the mold cavity or on the working belt. If the mold's working belt has low hardness, it can get damaged during extrusion and scratch the profile.
③ Exposed metal on the discharge track or hard inclusions in graphite strips can scratch the profile when they come into contact with it.
④ When a fork moves the profile from the discharge track to the swing bed too quickly, it can cause bumps or hits on the profile.
⑤ Manually dragging the profile on the swing bed can cause abrasion.
⑥ During transportation, profiles rubbing against or pressing on each other can cause damage.
Solutions:
1. Strengthen control over ingot quality;
2. Improve mold repair quality, regularly nitride molds and strictly follow the nitriding process;
3. Use soft felt to separate profiles from accessories, minimizing contact damage as much as possible;
4. Handle carefully during production, avoid dragging or flipping profiles unnecessarily;
5. Arrange profiles properly in the material frame to prevent them from rubbing against each other.
