The difference between 6063 and 6061 aluminum alloys

Main alloy elements for magnesium and silicon, 6063 aluminum alloy has the excellent processing performance, excellent weldability, extrusion and electroplating, good corrosion resistance, toughness, easy to polish, coated, anodized effect is good, is a typical extrusion alloy, widely used in building material, irrigation pipe, for vehicles, bench, furniture, elevators, fence etc with tube, rod, Profile 6063 is commonly used for building profiles.

The main alloying elements of 6061 aluminum alloy are magnesium and silicon, and form Mg2Si phase. If it contains a certain amount of manganese and chromium, it can neutralize the bad effects of iron; Sometimes a small amount of copper or zinc is added to improve the strength of the alloy without significantly reducing its corrosion resistance. There is also a small amount of copper in the conductive material to offset the bad effects of titanium and iron on the conductivity; Zirconium or titanium can refine grain and control recrystallization structure; Lead and bismuth can be added to improve machinability. In Mg2Si, the Mg/Si ratio is 1.73. In the heat treatment state, Mg2Si is fused into aluminum, so that the alloy has the function of artificial aging hardening. Industrial structural parts with certain strength, weldability and high corrosion resistance are required. 6061 requires various industrial structures with certain strength, weldability and high corrosion resistance, such as tubes, rods, shapes and plates used in the manufacture of trucks, tower buildings, ships, trams, furniture, machine parts and precision machining.

In general, 6061 has more alloying elements than 6063, so the material strength is higher.
