Causes and solutions for scratches, abrasions, and dents on aluminum alloy

The chemical composition and processing properties of aluminum alloys 6060 and 6063 are similar, but not identical. The difference between the two lies in their strength; 6060 is a national standard aluminum alloy for windows and doors, while 6063 is an aviation aluminum alloy approved for national use.

6063 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Mg-Si series of alloys, widely used, especially in the construction industry which cannot do without this alloy; it is the most promising alloy. It has good corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, relatively good cold workability, and has moderate strength.

The main alloying elements are magnesium and silicon, which provide excellent processing performance, good weldability, extrudability, and electroplating properties, as well as good corrosion resistance, toughness, and ease of polishing and coloring. The anodizing effect is excellent, making it a typical extruded alloy. 6063 aluminum alloy profiles are widely used in construction profiles, irrigation pipes, vehicle supplies, stands, furniture, elevators, fences, and other products due to their many advantages, such as good plasticity, moderate heat treatment strength, good welding performance, and the beautiful color of the surface after anodizing.

It is a low-alloy Al-Mg-Si series high plasticity alloy. It has many valuable characteristics: 1. Heat treatment strengthens it, with high impact toughness and insensitivity to defects. 2. It has excellent thermoplasticity, allowing for high-speed extrusion into structurally complex, thin-walled, hollow profiles or forging into complex-shaped forgings. The quenching temperature range is wide, with low sensitivity to quenching; after extrusion and forging, as long as the temperature is above the quenching temperature, it can be quenched using spraying or immersion methods. Thin-walled parts (6<3mm) can also be air-quenched. 3. The welding performance and corrosion resistance are excellent, with no tendency for stress corrosion cracking. Among heat-treatable aluminum alloys, the Al-Mg-Si series is the only alloy in which no stress corrosion cracking has been discovered. 4. The surface after processing is very smooth and is easy to anodize and color. Its disadvantage is that if it is left at room temperature for a period of time after quenching before aging, this will adversely affect its strength (parking effect).
